Tigers 16 – Cardinals 1
What a great 6 inning pitching duel between Tiger Lou Randazzo and Cardinal Gabe Kirck all scoreless. Then the 7th inning came and the Tigers bats erupted for 16 runs. At the plate Nolan Pietsch went 4 for 4 with a 7th inning 3 run blast giving him a 5 RBI day. Seku Slade also hit a 2 run shot in the 7th. Those homers do not happen if not for the bottom of our line up getting it all started. The entire Tiger team hit the ball. Joe Randazzo had a 2 hit 2 RBI day, Ben Jenny had a big RBI as did Julian Young. Cam Schafer, Ben Praet, Charlie Klatt, Anthony Topciu, Lou Randazzo, Lukas Pietsch and Ameer Smith all had big key hits today. Hats off to Cardinal Gabe Kirck for a great performance on the mound and his last major league at bat he hit a ball that is still traveling for a memorable Home Run. A great game to watch tonight by a packed crowd with standing room only available for the fans wrapped around the entire field. CONGRATS TO THE MAJOR LEAGUE CITY CHAMPIONS DETROIT TIGERS ! Tigers 12 – Cardinals 1
Nolan Pietsch Struck out 8 Cardinals today in this battle of the leagues top 2 teams to help lead the Tigers to a game 1 victory. At the plate he had a 3 run home run, a solo home run and a RBI double. Joe Randazzo was 3 for 3 with a double and triple. Lou Randazzo doubled and singled in a run, Seku Slade reached base all 3 times including a double and scored all 3 times. Ameer Smith had 2 RBI with his 2 singles, Charlie Klatt singled and his other 2 at bats advanced the runner and drove in 2 runs. Ben Praet reached base all 3 times and chipped in a RBI. Lukas Pietsch hit a double off the fence and Can Schafer rounded out the Tiger hitting with a single and a RBI.

Tigers 15 – Yankees 1
Sweet Lou Randazzo took the mound today for the Tigers and was masterful, striking out 8 while giving up 1 walk and 3 hits allowing just 1 run. He also helped his own cause today by going 3 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBI. Anthony Topciu also homered today for the Tigers while driving in 2. Ameer Smith drove in 2 runs while going 3 for 3 at the plate and Lukas Pietsch doubled in 2 runs. Charlie Klatt doubled in a run while Ben Praet, Nolan Pietsch & Cam Schafer each added singles to the Tiger hitting attack. Some great defense by Nolan Pietsch at short, Julian Young in right, Cam Schafer and Ben Praet at second and Anthony Topciu at third. Total team effort brings home the American League Playoff Championship. Next up the N.L. Champs St. Louis Cardinals in the City Championship starting this Saturday at noon.
The 2014 City Champions – The Yankees may not be taking home a title but they finished first in other aspects of the game.The four returning players, Connor Elsey, Michael Lang, Eddie Olejniczak and David Wells gave their new teammates a warm welcome and displayed great leadership skills, on field talent and sportsmanship. Our youngest players on the team Joey Olejniczak, Nate Schaefer and Calvin Thompson all saw time on the mound and dazzled at the plate. They showed their fans a glimpse of three great Yankee players to come. New to the Majors, Donald Hightower, Connor McClarty, Marc Melendez, Terrace Turner and Cory Vardiman all developed their game over the season and reminded their fans how exciting the game can be with each and every caught ball or first hit in the Majors. The Yankees look forward to the 2016 season.
A big THANK YOU to Manager Jeff Elsey a HWLL Alum for his dedication to the game and years of service to the HWLL. He has managed or coached both his sons Cameron and Connor in HWLL for many years. Another THANK YOU to Coach David Wells for his commitment to our league and his dedication to the game. Congratulations to newcomers Ed Olejniczak and Dan Schaefer for completing their first year coaching in the Majors.

Nolan Pietsch took the mound today, giving up 1 run, 4 hits walked only 1 and struck out 13. He also had a great day at the plate going 3 for 3 with a home run and 3 runs scored. Lou Randazzo hit a 3 run homer and singled, Seku Slade had a double and a single, Joe Randazzo singled as did Anthony Topciu, Ben Jenny, Cam Schafer and Julian Young.

What a classic battle on LL#2 tonight between the NL Leading Cardinals & AL Leading Tigers. A great game to end the regular season! Fine starting pitching on both sides by Jameson Grunenwald of the Cards and Seku Slade of the Tigers. Lou Randazzo came in for the final 1-2/3 innings to shut the door. At the Plate for the Tigers Nolan Pietsch hit his 15th homer of the season! Joe Randazzo doubled, Ben Praet added a single, as did Seku Slade, Charlie Klatt and 2 hits by Julian Young one of which was a big 2 out RBI single to add the insurance run. The Cards had hits from Alec Jones, Jameson Grunenwald, Ben Zoia and Tashawn Eatmon while Andre Hutchins added 2 singles.

Joe Randazzo was the Tiger starter striking out 7 while Came Schafer came in for relief to close out the game for the Tigers. Joe homered and walked 3 times, Nolan Pietsch homered, singled and walked. Lou Randazzo hit a blast to center for a homer. Seku Slade was 3 for 3 with a double and 2 singles and Anthony Topciu, who was great catching today, also went 3 for 3 with a double and 2 singles. Can Schafer added a single and Charlie Klatt just missed a homer, doubling off the fence. The regular season is winding down and the Tigers are getting in a playoff mindset.

Sweet Lou Randazzo took the mound today allowing no runs on 3 hits while striking out 11. At the plate Joe Randazzo went 3 for 3 with a Home Run, Double, Single scored 3 and drove in 3. Lou helped his cause going 2 for 2 2 runs and 2 RBI. Nolan Pietsch Homered, Seku Slade had 2 doubles, Ameer Smith Homered and singled, Anthony Topciu went 2 for 2. The rest of the team chipped in with Cam Schafer walking twice and scored, Julian Young singled and scored, Ben Praet singled and drove in a run with a sac fly.

The Tigers took the 3 game series 2 games to 1. Nolan Pietsch throws a 2 hitter and strikes out 9. Some outstanding defense by Ben Praet at second, Seku Slade at first, Lou Randazzo at short and Nolan on the mound. At the Plate Lou Randazzo and Seku Slade each homered, Ben Praet reached base all 3 times scoring 2, Nolan also scored 3 runs and reached base all 3 times. Ameer Smith got 2 rocket RBI singles, Anthony Topciu doubled, Lukas Pietsch continues to be solid at the plate, playing hurt he singled and hit a deep fly ball out. Julian Young singled in a run.
Cardinals 8 – Tigers 5
Hats off to the St. Louis Cardinals tonight who took down the Tigers tonight! Led by the superb pitching of Jameson Grunenwald and Tom Nguyen and fine defense behind them by Alec Jones at short, Andre Hutchins at 3rd and Tom Nguyen at second helped in the victory. Ben Zoia led the hitting attack with a 3 run blast to center and a sharp single to left for a 4 RBI day. Gabe Kirck had a good game at the plate with 2 singles and scored and Jameson also singled. Solid team performance tonight put in by the Cards. The few bright spots for the Tigers tonight were a 3 run home run by Seku Slade. Anthony Topciu, Cam Schafer, Nolan Pietsch, Lou and Joe Randazzo each had singles. Only 5 Hits by the Cards and 7 by the Tigers made for a very good game to watch.
Giants 10 – Yankees 6
The Yankees took an early 1-0 lead that held until the 3rd when Skylar Louwers hit his 1st major league home run over the left field fence. A grand slam! The giants scored 5 in the 3rd and one in the 5th to take a 6-1 lead into the 6th but the Yankees came back to tie the game and send it to extra innings. The Giants scored 4 in the 7th and held on for the win.
Jordan Arseneau pitched 5.1 innings and gave up 1 run on 3 hits and Bo Leonard held on for the win.
Great plays in the field by Skylar to top off his awesome performance. Good game by both teams and we look foreword to playing again on Thursday

“Smooth” Nolan Pietsch took the mound for the Tigers today as we played visitor over at GP Park. He proceeded to strike out 10, only gave up 3 hits and walked 1. Nolan also had 3 doubles and 3 RBI to help his cause. He also had some solid defensive play behind him by Ben Praet at second, Ameer Smith at first and “Fearless” Joe Randazzo was solid behind the plate. Some key contributors at the plate today were Ben “The Jet” Praet who drove in 2 runs with his 2 hits, Lukas Pietsch had a 2 hit 2 RBI day, Lou Randazzo drove in 2 with his single, Ameer “Da Beast” Smith had 2 frozen rope singles. Seku ” The Rocket” Slade had a 2 RBI single, Ben Jenny had a great at bat singling in a run. Anthony Topciu and Cam Schafer each had RBI singles and Charlie Klatt drove in a run.

Sweet Lou Randazzo took the mound today for the Tigers. Striking out 9, gave up 3 hits and walked nobody! The Tigers bats continue to impress with a line up of 12 players that keep on producing. Led by Joe Randazzo and his 3 for 3 performance, ALL Doubles and drove in 2. Ben Praet singled in a run with his 2 hit day, Lou doubled and homered driving in 3 to help his cause. Nolan Pietsch had 2 doubles and 2 RBI, Seku Slade doubled in a run, Cam Schafer doubled in a run, Julian Young drove in a run and Anthony Topciu doubled in a run. Great Game.
Tigers 17 – Giants 2
The Tigers were led by Seku “The Rocket” Slade tonight who launched 3 home runs for an 8 RBI night. Nolan Pietsch hit his 12th Home Run of the year driving in 2. Lou Randazzo walked and singled twice scoring 3 runs. Ben Jenny had a RBI triple, Joe Randazzo had 2 hits and scored twice, Cam Schafer reached base all 3 times with 2 singles and walk and scored 3 time. Ben “The Jet” Praet continues to play and hit as if he has been in the majors 4 years, going 2 for 2 with 2 runs. Charlie Klatt had a RBI single. Ameer “Da Beast” Smith drove in 2 with his rocket double. Anthony Topciu and Joe Randazzo pitched real well. Julian Young made the defensive play of the game making an over the shoulder catch in right. Ben Praet also turned in some fine plays at second. Some other defensive gems were put in by Giant outfielder Skylar Louwers! The Giants actually came out on fire ready for the challenge tonight taking a 1 -o lead in the first. They continue to impress this writer on the way they come to play every night no matter what their record is or who they are playing. 10 year old Joe Willis actually pitched a fine ball game.

From this writer’s viewpoint the Cardinals are playing some great baseball this year! They had 2 mammoth Home Runs tonight. One by Gabe Kirck, the other by Andre Hutchins.
Tigers 40 – Giants 5
Young Ben Praet took the mound today for his first Major League Win! Lukas Pietsch got a chance to pitch today and Anthony Topciu closed the door for 1-1/3 innings. Combining for a ONE HITTER. The story of the day is Lukas “Skywalker” Pietsch going 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and a Grand Slam Home Run for a 10 RBI day. Not to be out done by his brother, Nolan Pietsch had 3 home runs of his own getting his Major League leading 11th Homer and a 8 RBI day! Everyone for the Tigers did their respective jobs today. Catching his first Major League game Cam Schafer was a natural behind the dish. Moving players around today giving them a chance to play different positions. A big thank you to our leaders who sat some innings to give the young players more playing time! TRUE LEADERS! Charlie Klatt continues to be a great 12 year old pick up in this seasons Tiger draft, having a 5 RBI day. Lou Randazzo was 4 for 4 with 3 RBI. Other contributors at the plate were Ben Praet with his RBI single, Seke Slade had 2 doubles and 2 RBI, Cam Schafer had a 2 RBI day, Anthony Topciu had 2 walks and 2 singles scoring all 4 times. Ben Jenny had a 2 RBI day while Ameer Smith hit 2 rockets for a single and double scoring 5 runs. to round the Tiger hitting and scoring was Julian Young in the 2 spot scoring 2 runs and is a Rickey Henderson look alike on the base paths. GREAT GAME!

What an exciting game on LL#2 tonight. Tied 2 to 2 after 6 innings of play. Then in the 7th up steps Gabe Kirck for the Cards. He proceeds to hit a blast to straight away center field to spark the team. They responded by scoring another run. The Yanks were not done yet. In their half of the 7th Connor Elsey led off with a walk, but Tom Nguyen of the Cards shut the door on the rest of the Yankee line up to earn a well deserved victory!

Nolan Pietsch and Cam Schafer took the mound tonight for the Tigers. Each of which pitched a great 2 innings. Nolan struck all 6 batters he faced. Cam struck out 2 while only allowing 1 hit. He also, along with Lukas Pietsch, turned in the defensive play of the game. Cam noticed the runner on first taking to big of a lead and with Lukas covering the bag on every pitch was there for the perfect pick off. Ben Jenny made a great play in left, Ben Praet made another great play at second, Charlie Klatt snagged a line shot at third and Anthony Topciu pulled in a grab in center. At the plate the Tigers were led by the Home Runs by Nolan, Lou Randazzo and Seku Slade. The rest of the team followed suit. Joe Randazzo 2 for 3 with 2 doubles. Ben Jenny moved up to the 2 spot reached base twice including a sharp single. Lou also added a double for a 5 RBI day. Ameer Smith continues to hit frozen ropes. Anthony Topciu doubled. Julian Young drove in 2 with his single. Ben Praet singled as did Charlie Klatt and Lukas hit a deep sacrifice fly. 12 players playing as 1!!! The score does not indicate on how much the Giants young team is improving. All swinging good bats, some fine pitching by the staff taking big strides each game.

Led by the strong pitching of Lou Randazzo, striking out 8, strong defense and timely hitting brought the Tigers their 10th win of the season. Ameer Smith hit another home run today with a 3 run shot and he also singled. Joe Randazzo homered, tripled and walk scoring 3 and driving in 3. Lou went 2 for 3, as did Seku Slade. Anthony Topciu singled as did Ben Praet. Charlie Klatt reached base twice.

Led by the pitching of Nolan Pietsch and Joe Randazzo the Tigers swept the Yankees in this early season 3 game match up. Nolan also blasted another home run. Charlie Klatt hit his first major league home run and Anthony Topciu put one out tonight also. Ameer Smith rocketed a double and singled while Lukas Pietsch went 2 for 3. The Yankees had some solid defensive play tonight put in by David Wells, Connor Elsey, Nate Schaefer and Calvin Thompson.

Seku Slade took the mound for the Tigers today striking out 10 while allowing the 1 run. At the plate he reached base al 3 times including a 2 run rocket homer to center, a 5 RBI day for him. Julian Young stepped up into the leadoff spot in the absence of Joe Randazzo and proceeded to reach base all 4 times including 2 hits and a walk. Nolan Pietsch continues to hit line shots going 2 for 2 with 2 runs and 1 RBI. Sweet Lou went 3 for 3 with 3 doubles and 2 RBI, Ameer Smith homered again tonight driving in 2. Charlie “Gunner” Klatt went 3 for 3 scoring twice while Lukas Pietsch walked, singled and scored. The play off the game was put in by Nolan Pietsch in centerfield with an over the shoulder catch robbing Yankee Donald Hightower of a big hit. Some other great defense was put in by Ben Praet at second, Lou Randazzo at short and Ameer at first.

Jordan Arseneau pitched a strong game today in the Giants victory.Bo Leonard came on in relief to lock down the game.
It was a total team effort. Skylar Lauwers continues to swing a hot bat and Jordan helped his own cause reaching base and scoring in all four at bats. Jeff Archambeau got his first two hits of the season. Defensive standouts today were Skylar with a double play, Terry Smith with two excellent catches in left and Will Smith locking down the last three innings behind the plate.
The entire team played a great game and we look forward to our next game

What a masterful performance on the mound by Nolan Pietsch pitching a perfect game. 15 up 15 down, 14 of which were strikeouts the other a ground ball back to him. At the plate the Tiger bats continue to light it up. Joe Randazzo hit his first major league home run with a 3rd inning 2 run blast to center and singled in a run. Lou Randazzo went 3 for 3 with 2 homers with 4 RBI. Nolan continues to hit rockets by doubling and tripling. Ameer Smith hit a homer to center for his 2nd in 2 days. Anthony Topciu singled in a run and played great behind the dish. Julian Young continues to hit the ball well going 2 for 3 with a walk and RBI. Charlie Klatt, Cam Schafer and Ben Praet also singled with Charlie and Ben both crossing the plate. The Tiger team is playing as 1 and not 12 individuals. Playing hard with the mind on the game, while have fun doing it. Never letting it get to their heads, taking it 1 inning, 1 game at a time.

The young guns took the mound today and did a masterful job. Can Schafer, Anthony Topciu and Ben Praet each did a great job. At the plate Nolan Pietsch hit another 2 home runs, Lou Randazzo had 2 doubles homer and a single. Lukas Pietsch, Ben Jenny, Cam Schafer, Ben Praet and Charlie Klatt each had 2 hits. Seku Slade and Julian Young each contributed a single. Some great defense by Lou Randazzo, Cam Schafer, Nolan and Ameer help lead the way. Again another full team contribution to this game, bringing the Tigers to a 6-0 record.
Tigers 10 – Cardinals 1
Lou Randazzo took the mound today for the Tigers only allowing 2 hits while striking out 10, both hits were by Cardinal Andre Hutchins, who homered and singled. Some great defense by the Tigers today, led by the second base combo of Cam “Scoops” Schafer and Ben “The Jet” Praet. Nolan Pietsch robbed a lot of Cards of hits with his amazing play at shortstop. The Tiger hitting attack was led by Nolan’s 2 run Homer that is still traveling. Other big contributors were Cam, who also laid down a beatiful sac bunt moving Joe Randazzo from 1st to 3rd base and Ben Praet who had a 3 for 3 day driving in a run. Joe “Fearless” Randazzo continues to be a great lead off hitter reaching base twice today. Anthony “Top Dog” Topciu had 2 hits and 2 RBI while Sweet Lou Randazzo went 2 for 3 with 2 runs and 1 RBI. Seku Slade drove in 2 runs with a double and long sac fly. Ben Jenny continues to improve at the plate and in the field. Charlie “Gunner” Klatt proves to be a great addition to the team this year, as does Julian “Jules” Young. Ameer “Da Beast” continues to show the opposing teams he is a threat at the plate. Lukas “Skywalker” Pietsch continues to have a keen eye at the plate walking twice and scoring. 12 players who come to play as a team and the results speak for themselves. Great game boys! Nolan Pietsch took the mound for the Tigers throwing a 4 inning no hitter with 8 Ks. Lou Randazzo came in the 5th and also did not allow a hit striking out 2. Nolan also put on a hitting show belting a home run and singling twice driving in 2 runs. Lou Randazzo also put two out of the park and doubled to have a 4 RBI day. Ben “The Jet” Praet singled and walked as did Luke “Skywalker” Pietsch. Anthony “Top Dog” Topciu reached base all 3 times with 2 walks and a single, while Ameer “Da Beast” Smith continues to have a great year going 2 for 3 with 2 RBI. Jo “Fearless” Randazzo had a 3 for 3 day with 3 RBI and 2 runs. Ben “Jester” Jenny drove in a run and Seku Slade finished off the Tiger hitting going 1 for 3. Some solid Defense by the Tigers was put in by Ameer at first, Ben Praet at second and Joe Randazzo behind the plate. Another team performance brings a Tiger Team victory. Good Job players!

Nolan Pietsch went 2 for 4 with a mammoth Home Run and 2 RBI leading the Tigers to the win. Joe Randazzo continues to be a solid lead off hitter going 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, 2 runs and 1 RBI.Seku Slade had a 2 RBI night with his Double and Lou Randazzo singled in 2. Ameer Smith tripled in a run, Anthony Topciu singled in a run Lukas Pietsch and Julian Young each drove in a run. Some solid defensive plays were put in by the Tigers, Charlie Klatt threw out a runner at third on a single to left, Cam “Scoops” Schafer and Ben “The Jet” Praet each played a great second base. Lukas Pietsch made a great catch in right and Joe Randazzo was solid in center. Seku Slade took the mound going 5-1/3 innings striking out 6. Joe Randazzo came in relief to get the last 2 batters. There were some defensive lapses in the field, but the key was for the players was to continue on and come back later making all the plays. The team is taking each game inning by inning playing hard until the final out. Solid Team Play today!
Yankees 20 – Giants 10
The Giants are improving with each game. The hitting is comming along and the defense will follow. Everyone is putting the bat on the ball and the entire team reached base Friday night. Runs were scored by Connor Sams, Skylar Louwers, Jaden Bland, Will Smith, Bo Leonard, Mason Tringali, Matt Cichocki, Terry Smith and DJ Mitchell. Jordan Arseneau pitched strong and played strong defense and Jeff Archambeau drew two walks.

Nolan took the mound today striking out 7 in 3 innings of work. Anthony Topciu came in for 2 innings of relief, striking out 2 while giving up the 2 Giant runs. Then Ameer Smith took the mound for his major league debut and struck out 1 while getting the final 2 outs. At the plate Nolan Pietsch and Seku Slade each hit mammoth Home runs. Nolan added 2 more hits for a 3 hit total. Lou Randazzo had a 2 RBI day with his 2 hits, Ameer doubled and drove in a run, Ben Jenny drove in a run. Joe Randazzo singled twice and score 2 runs. Charlie Klatt got his first major league hit, Ben Praet keeps his hitting ways going by singling and reaching base all his plate appearances. Cam Schafer walked and scored.
The score does not indicate how the Giants played. Coach D was highly impressed with the 10 pitch at bat and ending up with a sharp single to right by Skylar Louwers. Every Giant went up there swinging a good bat, some defensive lapses hurt the chances. The young pitching of Borin Leonard and Joe Willis was very impressive. The Giants are a young team who will only get better.

The Tigers and Yankees matched up today from a rematch of the 2014 City Championship.
Led by Lou Randazzo and his 1 hitter. The Tiger Bats erupted today. Led by Anthony Topciu’s Home Run and 4 RBI. Lead off hitter Joe Randazzo continued where he left off last year, going 3 for 4 scoring all 3 times. Nolan Pietsch went 2 for 2 and 3 RBI, Ameer Smith had 2 hits with 2 RBI and 2 Runs scored. Rookie sensations Ben Praet, Julian Young and Cam Schafer each got the first major league hit in their first game as a Tiger. Ben Jenny added a solid single, as did Seku Slade, Lukas Pietsch walked all 3 times and while nothing to show for it Charlie Klatt hit the ball hard every at bat. Solid team effort on Opening Day!
Cardinals 18 – Giants 4
The Cardinals opened their 2015 season with a solid 18-4 win over the Giants. Thomas Nguyen (3innings, 4K’s) and Benny Zoia (2innings, 3K’s) plus a 3 for 3 day at the plate with (4) RBI’s lead the potent Card attack. Other stand-outs were Alec Jones with his two singles and a sweet catch in shallow left from his shortstop position and Steffon McNeal who played solid center field. Gabe”Gunner”Kirck was solid behind the plate added a single and a pair of RBI’s. Next up the Yankees. GO CARDS!!!
